Glenn Deuman's TED 6020 Digital Portfolio

My name is Glenn Deuman. I am
double-majoring in Special
Education
and Psychology at Wayne State University. My short-term
goal is to begin my career as a teacher for the hearing impaired in the
Detroit area and to continue on the path to attaining my long-term
goal, which is earning my doctorate degree in clinical
psychology. Over the past eight weeks, I have truly expanded my technological abilities. I have
learned to create movies, documents, spreadsheets,
presentations, and websites. What I feel I have learned
that is most important is how to pass the knowledge of this
technology that I have obtained on to other people.
Some Samples Of My Work:
Below is a link
to the movie, "Afton Goes To Work." It's a short kid's story
intended for both regular and special education students. It is
narrated by a poem that I wrote about Afton, my Italian Greyhound who
tries to find employment to feed his family. When this project
was first assigned, I had no idea what the subject was going to
be. Our professor pretty much gave us freedom to decide on
whichever subject interested us most. My dog was the first
that came to mind because when I got home from class that night, he was
out of food and was waiting patiently by his dish for me to feed
him. The poem took off from there. I used still photos as
well as video clips for the movie. Some of the still photos are
of ASL (American Sign Language) statements and gestures. My
intention with these images was to educate regular education students
of some of the gestures by using them in memorable, emotive ways and,
in addition, possibly make a special education student with a hearing
impairment feel more comfortable in an inclusive classroom. This
was, perhaps, my most enjoyable project of the semester. Click on the below link to watch the
movie (Note: You Must Have QuickTime)!

I had never
prepared a powerpoint presentation until this project was
assigned. This time, the professor assigned a specific
subject matter: an author/writer. My only problem with the
subject matter was that there were too many great authors to choose
from. It took a while to decide, but I chose songwriters who are
also published poets. The name of this label is "Lost Highway
Records." Each of the artists has a page in the presentation and
it is presented in "kiosk" format. Basically, this means that the
viewer can operate the presentation. I learned about the many
functions of Microsoft Powerpoint and how to create a great
presentation. This will most definitely be used in the classroom
and when speaking to groups of people (such as parents) within a school
system. Click below to

Powerpoint to view).

One fateful day
in class the professor said, "And now we're going to create a
website." To be completely honest, I was scared. Dealing
with graphics, long file directory names, and HTML jargon is not my cup
of tea. I found that, with today's technology, the idea of
building a website is a bit more intimidating than actually doing
it. In my spare time, I teach guitar lessons. At first, I
wanted to make a website for my guitar lesson service, but chose to
research an instrument that I don't know much about: the
sitar. It was a great choice because I found out that the
use of sitar music is a very helpful and important in music
therapy. Perhaps I can use it in the classroom to calm the
atmosphere if needed...
